Cross-Country Skiing

Tobermory and Parks Canada has some of the best cross-country skiing in Ontario. The trails can be entered all along Highway #6 running north through the Upper Peninsula. Skiing along the shoreline of Georgian Bay permits the visitor breathtaking views and a most unique and unusual experience.

Snowmobiling

SnowmobilingThe Bruce Peninsula has an extensive system connecting Wiarton, Lion’s Head, Stokes Bay, Miller Lake, Dyers Bay and Tobermory. In the Bruce Peninsula National Park, the road from the Cyprus Lake Office to the Head of Trails is not plowed and when there is enough snow allows use for snowmobiles. If snowmobiling on Georgian Bay, the rocks can be covered with ice and can be very slippery. The snowmobile trail also crosses the Cornerstone Golf Course allowing access to the Restaurant during weekends. The trail terminates in Tobermory where there is a Restaurant and accommodation at the Princess Hotel or Harbourside. If visitors wish, there are B&Bs available for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

Winter Camping

Winter Camping is available at Parks Canada’s Cyprus Lake. Parks Canada’s road is open to Cyprus Lake during the winter and parking is available in the Day-Use or Overflow areas. All campers must register at the small kiosk near the Cyprus Office and are requested to bring their own wood and walk into the campsite from the overnight vehicle parking lot to TamarackWinter Stream Campsite.

Other Activities

Visitors can also enjoy many other activities such as snowshoeing, dog sledding, ice fishing, photography, birding, wildlife viewing or outdoor skating.

Tobermory is just a few relaxing hours drive north of Toronto, Guelph, Cambridge or Kitchener-Waterloo.

Join those who pray for snow when you experience the moon’s shadow on a winter night, the quiet solitude of a frozen wetland or hardwood forest or the exhilaration of being in control on top of a four foot depth of white crystal insulation.

The Tobermory Tourist Information Centre is closed for the winter.
