Bruce Peninsula Park

Limestone cliffs, mixed wood lots, abundant wetlands and tranquil beaches are all important features of this Park. The mixed forest cover of cedar, balsam, fir, spruce, birch and aspen is relatively young.

By the late 1800's most of the area had been logged, and in 1908 what remained was burned off in a major fire. Yet, the Bruce is a botanists and photographers paradise including 40 species of orchids and 20 species of ferns. Wildlife, particularly deer, snowshoe hare, red squirrels, beaver, chipmunks, foxes and over 100 species of birds are seen regularly.

The Park offers:

  • Spectacular scenery and variety of trails, including the best sections of the Bruce Trail, pass through the Park.
  • In the Park, Cyprus Lake provides good, but unsupervised swimming. There is also a shallow sand beach at the lake.
  • Canoes and sail boards may be used on Cyprus Lake at any time, but motorboats are prohibited from June 15th. to Sept. 15th.
  • Bass, perch and yellow pickerel are found in Cyprus Lake.
  • Understanding what you see adds to your appreciation of the Park. During the tourist season, park staff present evening programs at Cyprus Lake amphitheatre. Scheduled activities range from guided walks to sunset excursions and star gazing.
