Something for everyone!

Take a stroll around Little Tub Harbour

and learn about the history of the settlement. The Historical Walking Tour begins at plaque No. 1 on Ontario Northland's ferry dock on the north side of the harbour.

Little Tub HarbourA brick pathway starts at the head of the harbour and ends at Lee Brothers Fisheries. At Lee's there is a wooden board walk extending to the Harbour Tugs Dive Site. This is one of the few sites within Fathom Five National Marine Park that is accessible from the shore and is also a perfect location for snorkelling. Please be aware of the private property adjoining the site and do not trespass.

The wreck of the Alice G. lies east of the entrance to little Tub Harbour and like the majority of Fathom Five's shipwrecks, sunk as a result of a fall storm. Gale force winds in November of 1927 tore the ship from its berth in Little Tub Harbour. Now the wreck lies in six metres (20 feet) of water. There are three other steam tugs accessible from the board walk.

You can even see the stern of the John & Alex, jutting out of the water. These and the Bob Foote and Robert K. are visited by snorkellers and divers wishing an enjoyable shallow dive.

As you enjoy your harbour stroll, visit the various stores around the harbour. You can purchase locally made crafts and artwork, read a book, buy a T-shirt or enjoy food from among several restaurants. Try fresh or smoked whitefish, a traditional favourite in Tobermory.

Also available are essentials: groceries, camping gear, dive accessories. Take a ride on a tour boat and see the shipwrecks in Big Tub Harbour through the glass bottom. You will see the harbours do resemble very large bathtubs! Amongst locals, "Tub" is also a short form for the name of the village.

The stroll around Little Tub Harbour is an essential part of a visit to Tobermory. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy a peaceful, small town harbour, experience the sites and smells and learn a little local history.

Places like Tobermory and Little Tub Harbour are fast disappearing so take the time to enjoy their beauty.
