Hiking

Apart from the rugged and beautiful Bruce Trail, three trails lead to the Georgian Bay shoreline and intersect the Bruce Trail through Bruce Peninsula National Park. The Georgian Bay Trail is the easiest access with informative displays and benches along the way.

The Horse Lake and Marr Lake trails can form a circle hike. There's some rough walking over cobblestone beaches but this section of the shoreline is considered the most spectacular. Allow yourself a half day to explore and discover the beauty of Indian Head Cove, the natural arch and the grotto - a deep marine cave.

A hike on very different terrain is the Cyprus Lake Trail, about five km. in length that skirts the inland lake.

The Halfway Log Dump access to the Bruce Trail offers spectacular scenery and wonderful hiking. Access from Emmett Lake Rd.,three km. south of Cyprus Lake Campground on Hwy 6. Take the left fork in the road to the Halfway Log Dump parking lot and follow the blue blazes for about 900 metres along an old logging track to reach Georgian Bay. Here, a boulder beach once stockpiled the winter harvest of logs waiting to be floated to local sawmills in spring. To the left, white blazes marking the Bruce Trail are visible. The trail clings to the edge of the Niagara Escarpment as it passes over Cave Point. The unmarked trail descends to a boulder beach, with views of Cave Point. A great place for lunch.

The road to Little Cove opposite the Warner Bay Rd. on Hwy 6 is another good access point to the Bruce Trail. There is a parking lot near the end of the road. Follow the white blazes on the trees to the shoreline and turn right. The trail skirts the shore above the ruins of small flowerpots. In the distance you can see Bear's Rump and Flowerpot Islands. The trail then turns inland, crossing limestone flats, and emerging by the shoreline at Cooney's Dump, the eastern end of Driftwood Cove. The trail crosses private land, so please remain on the trail. If you wish, you can hike all the way to Cyprus Lake. This will take several hours, but is a wonderful experience.
